Basement/Foundation waterproofing

Safe foundations begin with a quality waterproofing

Every durable building starts below ground. A solid structure depends on effective waterproofing to protect it from moisture ingress, which can cause structural damage, corrosion of reinforcement, and mold growth over time. Whether it’s a residential basement, a tunnel, or a large commercial foundation, reliable waterproofing ensures the long-term performance and safety of the entire building. Without it, water can compromise not only the structure but also the comfort, health, and value of what’s built above it.

That’s where Bitufa comes in. With more than 45 years of experience, Bitufa has been protecting critical infrastructure, residential complexes, and commercial buildings worldwide. Our bituminous membranes are engineered to maintain flexibility, adhesion, and durability for decades — even under constant hydrostatic pressure or challenging site conditions.

We offer a comprehensive range of torch-applied and self-adhesive systems, ensuring every project receives a solution tailored to its specific construction method and environment.

What makes Bitufa waterproofing basements unique?

Basement waterproofing plays a critical role in the long-term performance of any structure. Even minor moisture infiltration at foundation level can cause significant problems — from corrosion of reinforcement and concrete degradation to mold formation and costly repairs. In commercial buildings, it can even disrupt operations or compromise indoor air quality. Preventing water ingress at this stage is therefore essential to protect both the building and its occupants.

Bitufa’s below-grade waterproofing systems are designed to tackle these challenges. With Flexobit membranes, we provide extreme elongation and self-healing properties, creating a seamless, watertight barrier that retains its integrity for decades; even under constant hydrostatic pressure or shifting soil conditions.

Reliable waterproofing that lasts

Bitufa’s Flexobit and Flexowall provide high-performance waterproofing solutions for foundations and underground structures. Both membranes are compatible with a wide range of substrates and installation methods, including torch-applied and self-adhesive systems, offering contractors efficiency, flexibility, and exceptional waterproofing performance across the entire structure. Together, Flexobit and Flexowall automatically adjust to surfaces, ensuring complete and reliable protection for foundations and basements.

Flexobit membrane
Flexobit, a 5 mm-thick, homogeneous, non-reinforced bitumen layer, is designed for horizontal surfaces. Its reinforcement-free design eliminates the need for cutting or overlapping seams, allowing the membrane to conform to settlement and structural movement while maintaining continuous protection. Thanks to its self-healing capacity and long-term elasticity, Flexobit automatically seals minor punctures or damage, providing reliable waterproofing even in the most demanding underground conditions. It is particularly effective in vulnerable areas such as wall-to-slab connections, pipe penetrations, expansion joints, corners, and other complex geometries where leaks often begin.

Flexowall membrane
Flexowall, designed for vertical surfaces, features a reinforced inlay that ensures dimensional stability and long-term durability. Like Flexobit, it adapts to structural movement and provides reliable protection in challenging conditions, making it ideal for walls, shafts, and other vertical applications.
